Adventures with the Boswells

Monthly Archives: October 2011

Happy Halloween! I hope you all have a fun and fabulous day filled with lots of Reese’s. :)

We celebrated with our friends last night with a potluck Halloween party, where we feasted on deliciousness, watched Signs, and some Halloween episodes of Friends. :)
Table setup

My handsome hubby was Zorro. ;)

Our friend Jerod came as a cowboy.

My super cute BFF Brette was Dorothy!

Zorro & Esperanza. We had too much fun with this. Hahaha.

The table after it was stocked with food. Haha.

Brette made these cute caramel apples!

Look how cute our friends are. :) Even the ones who didn’t dress up. ;-P

Brette is the best!

Wesley & Tanner enjoying dessert. :)

Special thanks to Mom-in-law and Brette for helping me! And to my wonderful husband, who ran out to get ice for me and let me take up the house with decorations. ;)

In other news…Christmas is 55 days away! And my patience paid off…Hobby Lobby is 50% off all Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff this week! I made my first trip this morning. :) Haha.

Happy Friday!

Andrew & I finally got around to moving stuff around in our master bedroom and putting up the prints I ordered for our headboard wall. Well, Andrew moved most of the furniture, and I hung the prints. Haha.I loooove our new forest prints! I made it from one picture I took, so they’re technically one photograph broken into three. (P.S. Please admire my bed being made, because that doesn’t happen often enough. Haha.)

They make me feel peaceful. Success. :)

We also finally moved our new end table to Andrew’s side. Marvelous mom-in-law painted it for us, and we bought that cute little flower knob from Hobby Lobby.

Uber. Cute.

In other news, I made all these cute templates for calendars last night, and couldn’t bring myself to spend the $30 it would’ve been to get it binded from one of the photo labs I use…so I decided to settle and print them myself on cardstock. I’ll probably hole punch and tie them with ribbon or put them in my organization notebook…haven’t decided yet. Suggestions?I used a different picture and Bible verse for every month. March has my favorite verse because that’s my birthday month, Andrew’s has his verse because that’s his birthday month, etc. Most of the pictures are from Colorado, because we’re missing it dreadfully. Haha.

I like this one. :)

I plan to get things done today. My to-do list has about 27 things on it. Most of them have to do with cleaning…we’re having people over for a Halloween party Sunday night. :) I’ll post pictures after that for sure!

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Yep. It was glorious. I want to move there.

We set out at 7:30 AM Thursday morning and drove all day till we made it to Colorado Springs, CO. Friday morning, we met our families at my favorite place ever…Garden of the Gods. :)

For scrolling sake, I’ve conglomerated several pictures so you aren’t looking at this post for 12 hours. ;) These are all from Garden of the Gods. All of them are Andrew & me except the top middle, which is my rock climbing enthusiast Dad. :)

My husband is OH so handsome. :)

Andrew’s family, my family, and my brother Brad’s girlfriend Sherree. A good looking group, eh? ;)

Seriously. I want to pitch a tent under that rock and LIVE there. (Okay, maybe that’s a bit extreme, but I’d love waking up to that view!)

This is a conglomeration from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo – an AWESOME place that sits in the middle of the mountains and houses over 700 animals and lets you feed giraffes! Baha.

This pretty lion deserved her own picture.

I love moose…meese? Mooses? Someone tell me the correct plural form of moose, please.

After the zoo, we trekked to Helen Hunt Falls (I’m still not sure if they’re named after the actress…I kinda doubt it).

The hubs & me. This one might make it to a wall or frame…I love waterfalls.

Brad & Sherree. They’re totes the cutest. ;)

More falls, more mountains, a tunnel, and my little sister about to attack me….

Brad & Sherree, Mom & Dad, Andrew & me, and Dad & Worm being silly. :)

We drove 5 hours to Ouray, CO after the waterfalls & mountain exploring…and all fell asleep cuz it was super late. We woke up and realized we were in the middle of the mountains! Saturday morning we went down to the breakfast room and made a friend. Guess what my favorite part was?

Her name was Hannah. I wuv her.

The trees have turned to THE perfect yellow in Ouray, and I became obsessed with them.

My favorite view. Ever. It’s getting blown up and going on my wall.

More from Ouray…

Last one, near Box Canyon Falls. I kid you not, the skies looked like this. I didn’t even boost the color in Photoshop on this one. :)

After some time hiking and shopping in Ouray, we finished Saturday night at the True Grit Cafe, where they filmed the original True Grit movie. It was delicious. AND then we left and headed for home. :(

Andrew & I both felt kind of ridiculous, but the first day back in Oklahoma was awful. Haha. I suppose that’s how it is with almost any vacation, but it was even worse than when we got home from our honeymoon. I miss the mountains already, and we’re realllllly thinking about living in Colorado Springs. :) Loves. It.

If you made it this far, I apologize for the absurd amount of words & pictures. But that was our lovely Fall Break. :) What did you guys do over the break?

~Cait

I think the older I get, the faster the weekends go by.

I can’t remember what we did Friday night. I just remember Andrew & I got to relax, and it was lovely not having to be anywhere. Haha.

We woke up Saturday morning (we both had a free day – hallelujah), cleaned a bit, and then hit up Petsmart to play with the puppies at Midnight Woofness! The Central Humane Society (and several other groups I’m not familiar with) put on this adoption event with a goal of 550 adoptions…and they reached their goal! They started at midnight and went for two days. Craziness. Obviously we didn’t go to adopt a puppy because we’re still in the apartment that frowns upon large dogs. :( Haha. We did get to play with all the dogs though, and it was lovely…and heartbreaking at the same time. I’m growing increasingly impatient to get my puppy.

Saturday night, we forced our families to show up for some family pictures. ;) I’ve been wanting to get a picture of both of our families together, as well as some individuals, and we got several cute ones!

The Boswell side :)

The Ulrich side :)

Whole Family :)

I liked this one as a panoramic.

Siblings :)

Boswells

My love. :)

Turned out pretty cute, eh?! My family is hysterical. :)

After pictures, we went to Earl’s for dinner (I could eat BBQ every day) and took the fam to the Petsmart event that was still going on. Haha.

In other news…I’m feeling a little sickly today :-/ and REALLY trying to get rid of it before this week gets going. Tomorrow I’m going to the zoo with my best friend (YAY!), Wednesday Andrew & I are getting massages (YAY YAY!), and Thursday we leave for Colorado (YAY YAY YAY!)!!!!! :D Send up a prayer please that I’m all better by tomorrow morning. ;)

For you to fully understand my insanity in posting this many pictures of animals from my trip to the zoo, I have to explain a tad with this backstory. When I was 6ish years old (perhaps 7 or 8?) I was going to be a zookeeper. I had it all planned out on paper, from the layout of the zoo to the workers. My zoo was Caitlin’s Zoo, and my grandma was going to run the popsicle stand, my brother Brad was going to take care of the snakes, Mom and Dad could work with the elephants and giraffes, and I was going to swim with and train the dolphins and seals…and essentially care for/play with every other animal. It was going to be awesome. Some time later (age 12ish?) Brad & I discovered the computer game Zoo Tycoon. Goodbye homework and all productivity. I played it for hours, creating my perfect zoo. It was fabulous. Haha. I don’t know exactly how I went from wanting to be a zookeeper to becoming a photographer…probably because I loathe chemistry and knew I’d have to take that in college if I majored in zoology…also I met a cute boy named Andrew, and too-far-away OU was the only place that had a zoology major. Going to UCO was cheaper and more convenient at the time. My not-so-secret life goal to this day? To work at the zoo. I love it. I would go every day if I could. Maybe someday. :)

And now that you’ve seen into my crazy animal-loving brain…I give you baby tigers from yesterday’s trip to the zoo. :) And some other creatures.

This was the daddy…or at least we assume he was. He was pacing back and forth in the adjacent cage roaring. He either really missed his babies or really wanted to eat them. Haha.

This little guy almost fell off the log three or four times.

Sigh. I want to pick him up and snuggle him.

Look at those eyes!!

Sorry some of these are blurry. Focusing on rambunctious baby tigers through a fence is a challenge. ;)

Hahahaha.

And now the meerkats.

I love the way this guy was sitting. Haha.

“I hate my life.” Lol.

Ooookay, this was unnerving. This little guy stayed by this meerkat (who appears dead, right?) foreveeeer. He wouldn’t leave. We were about to cry (alright not really, but we were sad) because we thought he was dead, and the other one wouldn’t leave his side! We waited there for 15 minutes till the “dead” one finally moved. Relief. Haha.

Doesn’t he look like he’s asking for help!?! Haha.

And then he was depressed.

And others came to mourn.

He mourned from afar. Haha.

And this one didn’t care. Lol. Like I said…he lived. We were pretty freaked out for a couple minutes though. Haha.

Mom & Worm laughing at my jokes because I’m soooo funny. ;)

This is kinda how everyone looks when they’re talking to Alyssa. Hahaha. :-P
JK. I wuv her. :)

Clearly I’m used to being behind the camera, not in front.

If you don’t know my sister, this is her in a nutshell. Baha.

Whew. Props to you if you made it all the way through that post! ;) Happy Wednesday!

Yep. I only have a conglomeration of things to report again – no rhyme or reason. Just randoms. :)

Mom-in-law bought me some fabulous boots last week. :)

I spent entirely too much money last week *ashamed face* but I found this! Love it.Half-Price Books opened last week & had lots of coupons, so I got this for 40% off. It’s kind of an impulse purchase and Lord knows I have too many calendars, but after the following pictures, you’ll agree it was worth the 5 bucks. ;)

Sigh. I love. Andrew’s concerned about my puppy fever. ;)

Hope you all have a fabulous week!!

~Cait

Today is a happy Friday! :D Know why?

1. Tomorrow is my last wedding of 2011. It’s going to a fun time in the Paseo, and then I’m DONE with weddings till next year! :-D I’m soooo relieved. After I finish editing up the last of the weddings, I’m just going to have shoots to worry about…and that means I’ll have time to clean my messy home, craft a bit more, finally remember what it’s like to cook daily, & enjoy fall and winter relatively slowly & pleasantly. And that makes for a very happy Friday. :)

2. Tonight is date night! Andrew picked a date from the jar that ordered us to rent a movie from Red Box & make popcorn. I’m SO excited to get to stay home and chill. I think I’ll make BBQ Chicken for dinner…best meal ever. (Side note…we had Earl’s for dinner last night, and I’m pretty sure I could eat their brisket every day of my life…anyone else in love with Earl’s?!)

3. Our whole immediate family is going to have a family photo shoot next weekend. And I. love. our. family. :) And even though I’m kinda mad at myself because I’ve spent entirely too much money this week, I think I found my outfit for the shoot! Haha.

4. I booked massages for Andrew & me for the day before we leave for Colorado. I can hardly wait! I think it’ll be a nice kick off to the oh-so-needed Fall Break. 12 more days! :D

5. God is SO good. He cracks me up with how quickly he answers prayers sometimes. :)

Hope your Friday is happy too! :)

~Cait

And because I don’t think posts are very exciting without pictures…here’s one of Andrew. This is from the wedding I’m almost done editing, one he came and helped me on. He’s such a rock star. ;)

This week has been a blur! I’m relieved it’s gone by so fast, but I’m starting to feel like I haven’t accomplished as much as I should’ve. My computer glares at me every day with all the photos I have yet to edit. Haha. It literally never ends. I can’t remember the last time I had nothing to edit. While I LOVE my job and the flexibility that comes with it, I’ve been struggling to get excited about it lately because I’ve been so overwhelmed. This summer of TEN weddings left me completely exhausted. And. I’m. Still. Editing. Lol. Recently, however, I’ve come up with a bit of a solution. Promo shoots! I asked my friend Katie to be a model for me and bring along her super cute pups for a promo shoot this week – something different, something fun, and most importantly, something with no pressure. I’ve done these a couple times before, and it actually keeps me excited about my job. I try out a new location, or a totally new look and theme, and voila! I post some previews and get several new fans and comments (which is awesome & one of the main reasons I do promo shoots), but more importantly, I’m excited about my work! Don’t get me wrong – I love being a photographer, and I LOVE all my clients. I just think my inability to say no made me overbook this summer, and the fact that I’m still catching up depressed me. Haha. I’ve resolved to book less shoots and weddings all right in a row, and space things out so I have time to catch up. And every now and then, I might not book something just so I have a day to myself. That’s not so wrong, is it? Haha. ;) I’m going to start doing just a few promo shoots every couple months to keep things new and fun. It was nice to have no pressure and no deadlines. I had SO much fun with this shoot. Check out a few of my favorites. :)

Aren’t they just the cutest!?

This picture was kind of my idea I had in my head for the whole shoot…”A Girl & Her Dog.”

I. Love. This. Picture.

I love this one in black & white.

Definitely one of my very favorites.

:)

Sigh. I feel like I just vented. Haha. I apologize for the long shpiel. But it felt nice to get it all out. :)

~Cait

I feel like I have a random conglomeration of things to share on Mondays every week. Nothing particularly relevant. I might make this kind of post a weekly thing. Random Mondays. :)

I miss this pup. Doesn’t it look like she’s praying? I occasionally go over to my parents’ house during the day to pick up something or drop off things, but really it’s all an excuse to chill with my dog and snuggle for a few minutes. Haha. I miss that quiiiite a lot.

Totally forgot I had this until last night. Andrew & I don’t drink coffee, so we haven’t really used any mugs… even though a ton of cute ones sit in the cabinet. I found this one and used it last night for my pink lemonade. Lol.

I scraped up all of my leftovers from fall stuff and put them all in a big bread bowl. I thought I’d put it on the coffee table or kitchen table as a centerpiece. Is it just me, or are mini pumpkins the cutest?

I know Thanksgiving isn’t really close yet, but I figured my fall print could go up already. :) This one’s in our guest bathroom. It makes me feel like it’s colder outside than it actually is. ;)

~Cait

*Sigh.* There are three things I love more than most other things. Dogs. Dolphins. And horses. Haha. I took horseback-riding lessons growing up, and I think running on a horse is one of my top five favorite things to do. I wish I got to be around them more often. This morning, Andrew & I went with Mom & Worm (Worm is my little sister Alyssa’s nickname fyi…don’t ask me why; my Dad has a way with strange nicknames and everyone now calls her Worm). We ride at Lake Thunderbird stables in Norman. It’s gotten a tad pricey compared to what it used to be, but we like the people there, and they take good care of the horses.

Here’s hubs with his horse “Buzz.” Haha.

Worm & her horse “BlackJack.” He was pretty. And gigantic.

Mom & Casey.

My horse’s name was Dusty. He was kind of a midget. Haha. But I looove Palominos. :)

He was apparently the new guy, and kept trying to run in front of the other horses, even though the guy told me to keep him in the back.

Palominos are such a pretty color. :)

I have two bucket lists in my head. One is reasonable; one is unreasonable. On my unreasonable one, “own a ranch with lots of horses (and goats and dogs and maybe a camel)” is a big one. On my reasonable bucket list is “make really good friends with someone with a horse ranch so I can have free access to ride horses whenever.” ;)
