Adventures with the Boswells

Monthly Archives: November 2011

I grew up counting down the days till Christmas. I’ve always loved making countdowns – I like having fun things to look forward to, and saying, “just 28 more days till Christmas,” helps me get through the week. ;)

I’d seen some cute countdowns on Pinterest this year that used fun clothespins to hold little presents or ornaments. I saw others that had pockets with activity cards to do every day till Christmas. I combined the two to make our own little countdown calendar!

I hot glued the clothespins on some red velvet ribbon, and printed out little 3×3 cards I designed in Photoshop.

These are going to be a few of my favorite days. :)

I used tacky glue and scrapbook paper to make the clothespins Christmas-y.

I’m totally excited for these days too. :)

It was a fun craft, and I’m excited for us to do all the fun little activities. :) I think next year I’ll make a smaller countdown. It takes up a wall in my office and it’s pretty, but it looks oversized to me. Haha.

And just because I forgot to share this picture before…this is what I had for breakfast the day after Thanksgiving. The feast continued with IHOP. My husband rocks. ;)

Well, we made it through Thanksgiving! And there are two pieces of cookie cake left in my house that I will undoubtedly be finishing off this weekend. We had a lovely week full of seeing family and ended it with some crazy Black Friday shopping at Target. ;)

Yesterday, my fabulous mom-in-law came over to help me decorate for Christmas! Our little home looks OH so cozy. :)

We moved a little furniture around so our Christmas tree will go to the left of the fireplace.

I also made a Christmas craft, but I already have too many pics in this post, so I’ll blog about that tomorrow. ;)

Yesterday was our 6 month anniversary! :) I can’t believe how fast time flies. We’re counting down the next 6 months till we’re hopefully moving into a cute little house and heading to Disney World for a few days! :-D

We went to Longhorn for our celebratory dinner last night. Pause. If you have never been to Longhorn Steakhouse, stop reading this post and go right now. Come back after you’ve had their Renegade Sirloin and a house salad with ranch and extra croutons. Best. Thing. Ever. Okay, moving on.

Deliiiiiicious. My absolute favorite food in the world is this salad. Is that weird? Haha. Sooo good.

See? I didn’t even take a picture of the steak…probably because I ate it too fast because it was perfect. Hahaha.

He’s handsome. :)

It was fabulous. We came home, put lots of blankets and pillows on the floor and watched While You Were Sleeping. :)

And this morning, I woke up to these everywhere around the house…

He’s a keeper. ;)

Sorry for the cheese. Had to brag on him. Next post will be about crafting or decorating or something un-sappy! ;)

Another whirlwind weekend has come to an end! Here’s what happened.

Friday night, Andrew & I had the laziest night ever. We napped and watched movies and ate ice cream and just chilled. It. was. glorious. We both needed it desperately.

Saturday morning, I took my middle baby cousin Jordyn to go get nails done! It was her birthday present from July, but we’ve both been gone on vacations and so busy that we just now got around to getting it done. We had a blast and our nails looked lovely. ;)

She was super ticklish – and Mr. Nail Man thought it was hilaaaarious. Haha.

Saturday afternoon, Andrew & I headed up to Kickingbird Pets to creep because Dad-in-law mentioned seeing some German shepherd pups there. Haha.
Hello heartbreak. German shepherd mix puppies that were sleepy and precious.

Andrew made friends with the black shnauzer puppy. Haha.

Saturday night we went to my parents house to eat pancakes and watch Harry Potter. Yessss. :) And visit this pup, who was not pleased with all the dog scents we had on us.
Loves her.

In other news…it looks like Santa threw up in my office.

Baha. Mom-in-law is coming over this week to help me decorate. :)

That’s basically been our weekend. We had lunch with Andrew’s grandparents today, and this afternoon he’s been studying and I’m editing like a madwoman. Good news is I don’t have any shoots for the next week! :D Oh, whatever will I do with all this time!? :) And tomorrow is our 6-month anniversary! Yeah, seriously. I can’t believe it’s been 6 months already. I love my hubs even more now!

Hope you all have a fabulous Thanksgiving week! :)

I’m linking up today for What I’m Loving Wednesday!

I’m loving…

My new shirt from Plato’s Closet! I’m really into flannel and plaid this year. And it’s warm!

I’m loving that I got to go to the OSU game last night with Andrew! We’re both super busy (and by super I mean SUPER DUPER) so it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to go do something fun and different. Andrew’s boss gave him some tickets and we road tripped to Stillwater for the game last night. They won! :)

I’m loving that next week is THANKSGIVING! :-D I’m SO excited to get some down time with my family and some rest! And I’m already craving my grandma’s mashed potatoes like none other…:)

And I’m loving this dude! He’s hilarious. Such a trooper through our Christmas pics. Haha.

Everyone is posting things they’re thankful for on Facebook, and I totally missed that memo…I’m not consistent enough on there to update every day. BUT it’s making me happy to see all the positive statuses and making me think about things I’m thankful for!

Today, I’m thankful for my two best friends in the whole wide world. I don’t know what I’d do without these ladies!

Kristi took this pic when we all went horseback-riding this past weekend! We had a blast!

I loved that horse!
Such cuties. :)

They’re my favorites! I can’t express how wonderful it is to have such beautiful women of God in my life! They’re both hilarious, and I know I can always count on them for encouragement and prayer. Love you both so much! :)

This weekend was EVER so lovely, but ever so short. :( I’m looking forward to this weekend and especially next week – I think Thanksgiving week starting Tuesday is going to be splendid because I won’t have any shoots for at least a whole week, and I’ll get to decorate, rest, and be with family! :)

Friday night we went to the in-laws for pizza & to watch Santa Clause – my favorite Christmas movie ever I’m pretty sure…might be tied with Elf. Before we headed to their house, we grabbed a few self portraits for our Christmas cards this year. Quite frankly, we’ve gotten pretty awesome at taking remote pictures. Haha. See? :)

This one’s my favorite – we’re definitely using it somewhere on the Christmas card.

We have way too much fun being silly.

Had to get some Christmas hat shots!

What do you guys think? Pretty cute for taking them all by ourselves with a tripod and remote, eh!? Haha.

Saturday morning I went horseback-riding with my two best friends in the woooorld. I’ll post about that tomorrow. :)

Have a happy Monday!

Just in case you were curious….

13 days till Thanksgiving! (I’m totes bringing a cookie cake for Thanksgiving at Mom’s. Why cook something when cookie cake exists!?)

44 days till Christmas! (Must. finish. shopping.)

101 days till I can start rent house hunting without feeling like it’s too early. (Hooray!)

171 days till our lease is up! (Hooray!)

191 days till our 1 year anniversary trip to Disney World! (Hooray!)

339 days (give or take 20-30 days) till I can get my German shepherd. Probably. :) (Excessive joy and happy tears on this day.)

What countdowns are you making? Or are you normal and don’t make countdowns like I do? Lol.

Baha. I love a good rhyme. Don’t judge.

This month has been a tad stressful, and as I’m trying to stay sane, I thought I’d share some of my go-to methods to alleviate stress in case any of you are having a less-than-perfect month. :)

Tips to De-Stress:

1. Hot bath. Candles. Chocolate Milk. Extreme Home Makeover on the ABC app. Has there ever been a better combination? Seriously. Get some bath salts, a full glass of Borden chocolate milk, and soak for half an hour. If you feel like having a good cry, watch Extreme Home Makeover episodes. If you don’t feel like crying, put on the Sarah McLachlan Pandora station and try not to fall asleep. I’m guilty of making this ritual very routine, not just when I’m stressed. BUT it really helps.

2. Quiet Hour. This is a nice one if you can force yourself to rest (and it’s probably only possible if you don’t have children or if you can do it while they’re at school). Every now and then when things get overwhelming, I make myself get in my comfy clothes (my penguin pajama pants and Andrew’s Dallas Cowboys hoodie) and I lay down in my bed cuddled up and I rest. Sometimes I pray, sometimes I fall asleep, and sometimes I put on Homeward Bound and relive my childhood. The main thing is I try not to think about work – I focus on resting, and tell myself God WILL help me accomplish everything I need to, but I will do a better job if I take care of myself and rest first.

3. Say No to the Job, Yes to the Party. This one is harder for me to do now that I’m married and fully dependent on myself and my husband for money…so any job that pops up just comes up to me in $$$ signs, and I think Hey, we could go to dinner at Ted’s with that. While I’m not suggesting you turn down every opportunity that comes your way to go throw a party, certainly say no now and again in order to do something else if you need a break. When I have a movie party at our house or go have dinner with friends, it instantly lifts my spirits! I’m not worrying about everything that causes stress. I’m enjoying funny people. :)

4. Go play with puppies. Enough Said.

~Cait

I have some new hobbies. The first one is probably unhealthy, as it sometimes makes me feel as though I’m being tortured.

Hi. My name is Caitlin Boswell, and I’m addicted to playing with puppies. I frequent pet stores and animal shelters, and while I can’t buy any of these sweet, precious dogs due to our apartment restrictions, I play with them anyway. I think the workers are starting to recognize me. I’m going to have to go in next time with a hat and sunglasses. Too suspicious?

Alyssa & I went and played with these cuties yesterday – husky mix puppies!

I wuv them.

Are you aww-ing yet?

This guy was named Eugene, and he whined when we left the room, and jumped on us when we tried to stand up. Someone please go adopt him.

This little guy was a German shepherd mix (cue heartbreak) named Mickey. He’s adorable and loves to play tug-of-war.

All these sweet pups are available for adoption at the Central Oklahoma Humane Society on Western if any of you are looking for a dog! It’s an awesome organization, and the puppies are super cute!

Sigh. Glad I got that out.

My other new hobby is less unhealthy. Lol. I’ve become obsessed with making Christmas prints! Or any modern type prints for that matter. I’m going to put a lot of them up in cute silver frames around the holidays. They make me happy. :)

Aren’t they cheery!? I can’t wait to put them up. :) These all should be on my etsy shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/caitphoto) if you guys want any for yourself!

I think that’s all the news for today. I don’t have motivation and I’m not getting much done today. :-/ I’ve been in a sleepy slump since that thunderquake! ;)

Anyone else have new ridiculous hobbies, healthy or unhealthy?
