Adventures with the Boswells

Monthly Archives: April 2012

Today, we return our keys and wave goodbye to this empty place for good. What an incredibly strange feeling it will be to walk through that door for the last time!

And here’s a glimpse into what’s been happening at my parents’ house the past few days.

Some of this.

And this.

And this too. We love our Lexi Loo.

I took some pictures of this rapidly growing child. This isn’t at my parents’ house obviously, but it’s happened during our stay.

I’ve been wanting to take pictures in this cool field of burned trees and forced baby sister to be my model.

Stop. Growing.

This is most of what we’ve done the past five days we’ve been here:

Snuggled Lexi. Ate cookies. Studied (Andrew studied, not me obviously). Drank chocolate milk. Snuggled Lexi. Watched The Goonies. Ate alfredo pizza. Watched Mission Impossible 4 with Worm. Edited. Snuggled Lexi. Took pictures. Loaded and unloaded stuff from the apartment. Watched Jurassic Park to fall asleep. Watched the unbelievable ending of the Thunder game. Snuggled Lexi during literal thunder. Got salads to go from Longhorn. Ate cookie cake (hooray!). Signed our lease. Snuggled Lexi.

And we’ve been counting down the days till we’re sitting on the couch in our house watching Jurassic Park. :)

Happy Monday, and good luck to everyone taking finals this week!

We did it! We got every last thing out of that apartment with two days on our lease to spare. Our family and friends have been fantastic help, and I can’t imagine the past week without them!

So guys. We’re moving in THIS WEEK. I can hardly. contain. myself.

Yesterday, Andrew & I finished loading a few more things after we had our “last meal” in the apartment. Looks so empty, doesn’t it?

It was weird. But it was a good weird.

And once we’d packed up everything and finished our Taco Bueno and Sonic, we headed over to our new house to meet our landlord and SIGN OUR LEASE. :D Hooray!

Hubs standing in front of our home holding our lease agreement. :) Sorry it’s a measley phone picture.

And now it’s time to plan. ;)

The first thing I’m going to do when we get in our house is run around from room to room, do jumping jacks, and relish in the fact that the floors aren’t squeaking, and there will be no one below us to be annoyed by our footsteps. :D I will be able to start up my 30-Day Shred DVD again without fear of the lower floor’s complaints. HALLELUJAH!

The second thing I’m going to do when we move in is go out in my backyard, lay in the grass with Andrew, and look up at the clouds. I’m going to imagine what it will be like to sit there in a few months with a puppy. Now that I’m thinking about it…I think we need to purchase a hammock.

The third thing I’m going to do is climb up on that island in the kitchen, sit cross-legged, and stare at my fabulous kitchen cabinets for a good two minutes straight. My love of organization is brimming with anticipation to sort out my plates and cups and such. ;)

And so it shall begin. The moving, the painting, the decorating, the buying of things, the selling of things, the daydreaming of my puppy…just a few more days, and we’ll be in our house, laughing about the good old days in the apartment and embracing the great new days of being in our new home. :)

P.S. Another special thank you/shout out to the precious Lisa Doyle for telling us about this house and to her sister Bev for showing it to us! :)

I sure hope that title intrigued you guys. ;)

Let’s talk about my wedding photographer. Her name’s Benita, and she’s basically the coolest, sweetest person alive. She’s German and hilarious and a brilliant photographer and friend of mine. If you’ve seen my wedding and engagement photos, you know just how SPECTACULAR she is. Earlier this week, she asked if I’d be willing to be a bridal model for a SMUG seminar she was teaching/hosting at her house, and I giddily agreed! I met her in Norman to try on wedding dresses Wednesday from the fabulous Bridal Boutique, and we picked this one!

See that cute, smiling lady in the background on the left? That’s Benita. And that’s how she always looks. Happy. :)

This past Thursday, I made the trek to her FABULOUS house in Purcell, and we spent the afternoon laughing as she did my hair and makeup and I tested her three precious kiddos on their spelling words. And before I knew it, I was in a wedding dress in the middle of a field in front of 50 photographers all shooting me at once, and it was the strangest thing I’ve ever experienced. Hahaha. But it was SUCH fun. :) Here’s one of the shots Benita took. Yes. She did my hair and makeup AND took pictures. She a magician.

I know. I don’t even look like Caitlin. It makes me chuckle too. :-P

And in other news, we are doing just lovely staying at my parents house, eating their cookies and drinking their chocolate milk. :) Andrew & I are meeting up with our landlord to SIGN OUR LEASE TODAAAAAAY. I am unbelievably ready to be settled in our house and swinging on the front porch. :)

Have a lovely weekend, every last one of you! Expect more picture posts soon…I’ve lots to show you. :)

I’m sitting on my trusty computer at 7:00 in the morning…at my desk in our two-bedroom apartment. For the last time. In a few hours, the in-laws will be here with a moving truck and people will help us unload approximately 278 boxes out of our home. I may be slightly exaggerating. The boxes will disappear. The couch and beds will be stored. The plates will hopefully stay in tact inside their carefully-packaged bubble wrap. The trucks will make trips back and forth, the people will be exhausted and sweaty, and the apartment will be empty by the end of the day. Andrew and I will be staying at my parents’ house tonight and the next few days, bewildered by the events of the week.

And I’m sitting here trying to brace myself for what’s about to happen. I’ve mentioned previously that I’ve recently hit a “third-of-life crisis,” which several people have informed me is more accurately a fourth-of-life crisis, as I’m only 22. But a third-of-life crisis sounds funnier, and I don’t really care to think about being that old. :-p I’m trying to hang on to the past year and remember every little detail of what’s happened, because while it has definitely been the best year of my life, it’s also been the fastest…by a long shot.

I remember visiting our apartment complex for the first time with Andrew and touring their model version. There was a sailboat on an armoire in the living room, and I knew we had to live here. Nautical. I love all things nautical.

I remember the first time we heard our neighbors yelling outside at 2 in the morning. That was an adventure. They were outside cursing, yelling, definitely drinking, and in a few minutes, being questioned by the police. We were upstairs watching 101 Dalmatians and peering through the window with wide, naïve eyes. I remember the short dance party we had when they moved out.

I also remember crying when the cranky old man moved in to replace them and accused me of harboring a 300-pound immigrant in our apartment. Good times. His yapping chihuahua is staying here with him and for that, I’ve never been more grateful to be leaving. ;)

There was the time Andrew brought me home a cherry coke, just because, and we watched episodes of Frasier and Everybody Loves Raymond. I’m fairly certain Ray Barone is my favorite fictional character of all time.

And another time when I came home from shooting a long wedding, and Andrew had put a sticky note on the door that said “Longhorn?” with a smiley face underneath it. I walked in to find a Longhorn salad and a super handsome dude at the kitchen table.

I remember having our friends over for a Christmas party and wearing tacky sweaters and taking lots of pictures. And eating lots of fudge.

I remember falling to the floor crying after realizing how much weight I’d gained since our wedding, and I remember jumping up and down with excitement when the numbers showed me I’d lost ten pounds. I don’t know if I’ve ever been prouder of myself. I remember eating cookie cake after that. Let’s be honest. I remember eating lots of cookie cake over the last few weeks. ;)

Another day, I started writing a book here. It’s yet to be finished, but Andrew is a fabulous editor. I’m on Chapter 12.

There was the moment I opened my birthday card from my grandma and slid to the ground in tears because this time it said “Love, Mimi” instead of “Love, Mimi and Pa.”

There was the time we stayed up late watching movies and talking about getting a house and a dog. I made Andrew watch countless YouTube videos of baby German shepherds.

One time after a long, annoying day of editing and being busy, Andrew helped me cook dinner – or at least pretended to – and grabbed my hand and started dancing with me in the kitchen. I laid my head on his shoulder and thanked God for where we were and knew I’d miss it someday. I didn’t know just how soon I would miss that night.

I’m beyond excited for this next chapter. I have a feeling it’s going to be one my very favorites. But truthfully, I’m scared to death of growing older and things passing as quickly as they have the past 12 months. How do you hang on to moments and make life slow down? Let me in on the secret.

And wish us luck today and keep us in your prayers the next two weeks. :) Things are going to be different, but I think we’re ready. God is so very good to us.

Wow. Moving has quickly become the most daunting task of all time. I had no idea how long it would take, and I’ve never been more thankful for the ability to take time off from my work. Yesterday was completely dedicated to packing, sitting on the couch for five minutes recuperating every two hours, and then repeating the vicious cycle. Did I mention my dear sweet husband has finals next week? So I’ve packed all but three boxes by myself while he works and goes to school and studies? No, it’s not his fault in the slightest but yes, I’m about to go insane. BUT the moving truck comes tomorrow morning with the fabulous moving help of our family, the storage unit is open tomorrow, and the boxes get moved out of what used to seem like our big apartment TOMORROW. Praise the Lord. We’re staying at my parents’ house until we can get into OUR NEW HOUSE. I’m a wee bit excited. :)

And today, I’m daydreaming of this place. It’s my favorite, and I miss it dreadfully. It’s all I can afford to post today since I unfortunately have to continue packing until I’m finished. :-P Wish me luck!

And this video makes me smile. :)

P.S. Also. I had a dream last night that Keith Urban was singing to a crowd of fifteen, and I was in that crowd with a really annoying girl who kept going up and touching his face in the middle of his melodic goodness! Then Alyssa and Dad and I jumped on trampolines for ten minutes before we realized our country was about to bombed, and we went into save-the-world mode and I’m fairly certain the Mission Impossible music started playing in my dream.

K bye.

I love this guy.

He’s now a 23-year old. Weird.

Let’s go back a few days, shall we? Prepare yourself for an excessive amount of photos!

World’s most hilarious Asian? This guy. Look at him sporting his cool shades.

Dinner Thursday night at Shogun’s with the in-laws!

We ordered “The Samurai.” I wish Tom Cruise was there.

I picked up these babies Friday morning from the fabulous lady who made our wedding cakes. Click here to see her facebook page. She rocks.

Andrew wanted to have a fight with the light sabers. I declined.

I gave him five envelopes and five “doors” to choose from – each looked something like this with silly little poems.

He picked Door #2 – A Star Wars movie marathon and pancakes and bacon for breakfast. We actually wound up only watching one of the Star Wars movies because I bought him Jaws for his birthday, and he decided that needed to be watched first. ;)

I’d planned for us to go to IHOP, but he really just wanted to chill at home, so I whipped us up some pancakes, bacon, and breakfast potatoes! Quite delish, IF I do say so myself. ;)

Mom left a gift bag of cookies and a Starbuck’s card on our front porch for him…and obviously a large balloon with Harry Potter on it, because she’s hip like that. Haha.

I take really bad mirror pictures…remote-controlled self-portraits we’ve nailed, but I’ve yet to master the mirror!

Olive Garden for dinner :)

I have great news for you guys. You can go to Olive Garden and get unlimited salad and breadsticks for $3.91. I’m pretty sure. The waiter didn’t charge us for my diet coke, and our bill was $3.91!! We gave him a good tip. Haha.

And yesterday we hit up Ted’s for lunch after church to celebrate Andrew’s & Wesley’s birthdays! Say hello to my two pretty best friends. :)

The clowns.

I loooove these two! Happy birthday Wes!

Hahahaha. I can’t handle the greatness of this picture.

Wes looks like he belongs in Mexico.

Awkward birthday song. :)

And last night we headed to Aunt Linda’s for a family party for Andrew & Grandpa’s birthdays, where Linda fed us delicious food and cake, like always. :) Uncle Mitch made his legendary chocolate chip cookies. I may or may not have had five of them. Notice I don’t have a picture of those…because they were gone in ten seconds. ;)

Love. Our. Families. :)

Did you make it this far? If so, I commend you. Andrew had a fabulous birthday and is now the owner of Mission Impossible 4, Jaws, a Boy Meets World season, a Castle season, some new shirts, and looots of cash. He did well. :)

Happy Monday! Hope you all had a fabulous weekend!

~Cait

P.S. Send up some prayers for us this week – I have two days to pack, and I’m not even close to done. ;-P

Tomorrow is my love’s birthday, and wouldn’t you know…this is my 100th post! How fitting. :) He will be 23 years old, and people, that frightens me. I like to call him a kid…a boy…never a man. Mostly because I’m terrified of growing older, and if he grows older, that means I have to grow older too. Alas, he is looking manly.

He let me take some pictures of/with him to document his current age. :) SUCH a good husband, as he basically lets me take pictures all the time.

This. Smile. This smile is one of my favorites.

Of course, this one isn’t bad either. ;)

Oh so serious.

I have fallen in love with a field. This field. With its overgrown mossy grass and trees and perfect lighting. I’m not telling anyone where it is because now it is mine. ;) Andrew looks so dreamy in it. :)

Can we acknowledge that Hubs and I are brilliant at remote-controlled portraits now? Honestly. I’m really impressed with us. I am, however, SOOO looking forward to my BFF Kristi Belle taking pictures of us for our one-year, because it’s so much easier to focus (no pun intended) when you don’t have to worry about hiding a remote in your hand. ;)

He’s just so darn cute. :)

Last night, after a celebratory dinner at Shogun with the fabulous in-laws (pics to come later), I gave Andrew five envelopes with five “doors” to choose from for our birthday celebrations on Saturday. Each envelope had a mini, ridiculous poem with different options for the day’s plans, and I also included a picture of a golden retriever, because those are his favorites, and a wallet picture of us. He’s pretty sure he’s chosen Door #2. :) I’ll take pictures and tell you what we do when I post next week.

This whole being married thing is really great. I highly recommend it. I must admit though, marrying Andrew wasn’t originally my plan. You remember me? The planner? The list-maker? I make several lists a day to stay sane. I have a To Do list that I follow to the letter. I plan down to the minute. I didn’t plan to fall in love with Andrew.

Before I met him, I went through a series of self-esteem issues and had been struggling for a couple weeks. I was peeved that I’d always been “the friend” – the girl that every guy is friends with, but won’t ask on a date. It started to affect my sense of worth, and I remember coming to a point of total surrender to God – letting him handle the future, handle my lack of a love life, and handle my heart. Ironically enough, the week after I made this sort of surrender, I went to Falls Creek…where I met my husband. My idea of surrender was that I’d be single for a while, grow closer to God, and be perfectly okay with that. And I was. God has a funny way of giving you exactly what you want right after you tell Him you don’t want it.

After that week of foursquare, flirting, and an icee date, needless to say, I was smitten. When Andrew and I went on our first real date, I remember telling myself I would only continue dating him if he prayed before our meal. [Side note: Go to Steve’s Ribs – get the chicken breast dinner with corn on the cob and steak fries. It’s divine. We return to Steve’s often.] After we got our food, Andrew prayed to bless it with no prompt, and I decided I’d marry him. I could not ask for a better husband!

It’s been almost five years since I met that boy whose butt I kicked in foursquare. ;) And I have to admit he’s the best thing that I didn’t plan.

Happy birthday (tomorrow) my love! I’m ever so glad God planned for me to marry you. :)

What an incredibly interesting weekend Oklahoma has had. :) We had excessive amounts of rain, tornadoes, hail, and craziness. But yesterday… Yesterday was beautiful. And the weather forecast this week is looking absolutely glorious.

I shot a wedding yesterday for two of my oldest friends, and I could not BELIEVE how beautiful the weather was after such a scary weekend of storms! Say hello to two of my dear friends that I grew up with in high school – now an old married couple. ;)

Look at those skies! Mollie & Dustin could not have had a better day weather-wise. :)

I know. They’re ridiculously photogenic.

Confession. Sometimes I like to go to weddings and not shoot them when I personally know the bride & groom. I rarely go to weddings now where I’m not shooting them, so it’s a nice break every now and then. ;) However, I think this wedding in particular was one I could only enjoy the most by shooting it. I got to spend the day following my good friends and laughing at the hilarity of their friends and family, and it was just beautiful. I cried like a baby. Haha. Congrats you two! :)

And in other news…it’s going to be in the 70s and 80s all week. :-D I’m going walking later today and hopefully every day this week! Andrew’s birthday is Saturday, and PRAISE THE LORD he has the day off so we can finally hang out for a day just the two of us. It’s been far too long since we’ve gotten to chill, and I’m SO looking forward to it. :)

And because Mondays are usually melancholy and dull, here. Enjoy some funnies from Pinterest. :)

<- This child is a genius.

We feasted at Longhorn. :) Sometimes I creep on Andrew with my camera phone. I tell him it’s because I’m bored or because I love him, but really it’s because he has an awesome jawline that I like to look at all the time.

And a cute smile. :)

When he came home from working out this morning, Andrew handed me these beauties. :)

Such a charmer. ;)

This is one of the walls in our apartment…it’s completely filled with boxes. Packing is exhausting and exhilarating at the same time. We are SO ready to move. :)

I’m off to a bridal shoot for my BFF Kathleen, and I am soooo excited cuz she’s just lovely. Have a fabulous Thursday evening my dears. :)

~Cait

Happy Wednesday!

I woke up to thunder and rain and Andrew this morning, meaning my day has started out perfectly. :) I don’t have any shoots today, so I’m editing and trying to catch up a bit…maybe doing some packing. And taking a break to blog. :)

Snapped this with my crummy little phone last night on my way home from a shoot. I LOVE sunsets!

I stopped by to visit my family and watch War Horse with Mom & Lys while Andrew was in class last night. And to visit this baby girl. She so cute.

Speaking of War Horse…go rent it. Nay. BUY it! I adored this movie. Aside from hearing Mom weep uncontrollably every ten minutes, it was utterly delightful. :) It’s really well-written, and the horse is absolutely gorgeous. It’s hard to watch at times, but it has a spectacular Caitlin kind of ending. ;) I want to go horseback-riding as soon as possible…but it needs to stop raining in order for me to do that. I’m torn.

Two of my very favorite things in the world…a notebook and a pencil. I loves. Every time I finish editing a shoot (which usually means going through anywhere from 400-800 photos), I reward myself with a little planning break. Yesterday, I finished the daily quota, and I promptly sat on the couch with my notebook and pencil and put Jurassic Park on. It was glorious. :)

In other happy “favorite thing” news…

10 days till Andrew’s birthday!

19 days until our lease is up! (HOLY goodness gracious, I need to pack.)

23 days till Andrew’s on summer break! :D

40 days till Disney World. Did you hear me? 40 DAYS TILL DISNEY WORLD!

Roughly under 200 until I can get my puppy. :)

Hope you all have a splendid rainy Wednesday. :)

~Cait
