Adventures with the Boswells

Monthly Archives: May 2012

Andrew’s sweet cousin Heather got married this past Sunday in Wimberley, Texas, and I had the privilege of shooting the wedding. We made the 8 hour trek to a town I’d never heard of, but please enjoy how cute it is with me!

Most of the family stayed in this house…gooorgeous.

Andrew and I got this cute little house to ourselves!

Oh, hello there, clawfoot tub!

Screened-in back porch…yes, you do see a hot tub out there!

This is the river 100 yards down from the big house.

And most of the next pictures are cell phone pics…apologies. :-P

We went “river rafting” Saturday morning. And by river rafting, I mean we floated 2 mph on a foot-deep river and hit our bums on rocks every 10 seconds. ;) But it was delightful.

Can you see Andrew? Haha.

So. Pretty.

And we got to hang with baby Keaton! I wuv him. I wuv him even more because I don’t have to have a baby while he’s still little and cute and entertaining. ;)

Mom-in-law took this for us a few minutes before the wedding. Hubs. Why must you look so much like a man? Stay young with me. ;)

Happy Thursday!

Let me explain the reason for my absence.

Last Sunday: Flew to Florida
Monday: Disney World & anniversary day
Tuesday: Pool and Orlando Day
Wednesday: Flew home to OK
Thursday: Unpacked. Repacked.
Friday: Left for Texas at 7 AM. Arrived around 6 PM.
Saturday: Day in Wimberley, TX. River rafting, napping, rehearsal dinner with excellent fajitas.
Sunday: Shot sweet cousin Heather’s wedding.
Memorial Day Monday: Drove home with hubs and mom and dad-in-law. Had a killer chocolate malt.
Monday night: Watched Princess Bride with Hubs and ate Uncle Mitch’s cookies.

And today. Today I am sleepy. Why? Because I woke up at 3:45 AM and couldn’t go back to sleep. I plan to nap this afternoon.

On the bright side, I did edit some preview pictures while I was an insomniac. Here’s a quick peek into the ridiculous amount of cuteness of this weekend. My husband’s family is cooler than yours. ;)

I have a looot of planned posts coming up the next couple weeks…several pictures and stories and happenings. Stay tuned, my loves. :)

Vacation? Can I have another vacation? Can it be twelve times longer? Can I eat ice cream 50 more times while I’m there?

Andrew & I had a marvelous one-year celebratory trip to Orlando, and I am so. stinkin. sad. it’s over. Truly, we were bitter people on the day we had to leave. Haha. BUT it was a wonderful and much-needed trip, and I will now reminisce by showing you lots of pictures. ;) And by lots, I mean lots in clusters so you don’t have a heart attack while scrolling vigorously. :)

First things first. If you are looking for a hotel in Orlando, look into Lake Buena Vista Resort & Spa. It is now my favorite place ever. ;) Seriously – the staff was great, the pool was awesome, and the room was fantastic. They have a free shuttle to Disney World. AND there is a Pizza Hut Express in the hotel. I realize that may just be something that only I would get really excited about… Here’s a few shots of our room. :)

Yes. We had a 2-bedroom suite for some reason!? Promise I only booked us a 1-bedroom, but we didn’t complain! Nice big kitchen and bedroom, GIANT JACUZZI TUB, and a big screen TV. Heaven.

Monday morning, at 9:00 AM, we took the shuttle to DISNEY WORLD. And we didn’t get back to our hotel till 11:00 PM. I would not recommend doing all four parks in one day if you are not prepared to have blisters and walk for what feels like a marathon. But it was less expensive to go just for a day…and on the plus side, we are apparently immature people who get overly excited and hyper at theme parks, and we handled the exhaustion quite well I thought. ;)

It was the cutest thing ever watching Andrew get excited when we got to ride “Star Tours” and take his picture with Storm Troopers.  Lol.

I’d like to shake the hand of the people responsible for the creation and upkeep of Animal Kingdom. It’s a Caitlin heaven.

Tuesday was spent swimming at the pool, eating more than we should have, and going into town. :) We walked around a cute little plaza after eating lunch at Johnny Rocket’s and wound up seeing Avengers at this swanky movie theater…because I wanted to see it a 3rd time, and Andrew didn’t mind seeing it a 4th. ;) We then walked to Friendly’s…for the best ice cream of our lives.

Guys. I mean this with every bone in my body. Go to Friendly’s. Eat the Reese’s sundae. Thank me later.

Wednesday morning, we went to the pool one last time. We ate our bagels and cinnamon rolls for the last time and went down the pirate ship slide numerous times like six-year olds. (Clearly, marriage has matured us.)

We could have stayed at that pirate ship pool all day, and I could have eaten twelve more bagels, and I’m sure Andrew would’ve loved twelve more cinnamon rolls. Needless to say, coming home Wednesday night was a sad journey. It’s a good thing our parents took us to Ted’s, or the day would’ve been utterly miserable. ;)

Sigh. I’m now planning a return trip. I love my handsome Hubs.

Today is our 1-year anniversary! While we live it up at Disney World, I want you to be able to enjoy hilarity and greatness too…so here. Have a poem and some freakishly old, embarrassing photos. ;)

A year ago today, I married a handsome man.

I’d loved him for a while, and I’ve no doubt it was God’s plan.

He met me playing four-square, where I schooled him at Falls Creek,

And though he claims he let me win, we both know I had him beat. ;)

[Disclaimer: This is 5 years ago on our first lunch date. We know we look awful. We know we have bad hair. Let it go and remember us as we are now...older and wiser ;) Haha.]

And then he bought me ice cream, and well, from then on my heart was his.

And he quoted a line from a movie before he gave me our first kiss.

He prayed with me and bought me presents, and went along with my photo shoots.

So naturally, I married him! And lucky for me, he’s super cute!

[Also 5 years ago.]

Today, we’re ruling Disney World and eating french fries like crazy.

And tomorrow we’ll be swimming, and eating more, and being lazy!

I sure do love him lots, and I’m so glad I married that man!

Now look through all these old photos, and don’t judge us, if you can.

Happy Anniversary, Hubs! You’re the greatest ever. :) Let’s go ride the Buzz Lightyear ride 50 times. ;)

Hubs and I are leaving for Florida in JUST A FEW HOURS. We’re spending the morning finishing our packing and eating pancakes. The anniversary weekend has begun. :D But before we head out, I had to share this post with you…because I stayed up late making sure I had time to post it in the morning. Yesterday was one of my very best friends’ weddings, and it was too precious of a day to wait to blog about it. ;)

Once upon a time, I was in junior high. My family changed churches, and I was in the most awkward of my many awkward stages. I basically had no friends at church for a few weeks, and I used to pretend I didn’t feel good and go to the bathroom during church activities because I felt so awkward and loser-ish. Baha. True story. One of my first real friends, and one of the few to talk to me in the beginning, was Kathleen Biddy. I immediately tried to befriend her when I heard her witty sarcasm. ;) Somewhere amidst the mission trips, the youth group hangouts and the hilarity, we became BFFs.

We hung out at friends houses together.

Circa 2006, BTW.

We ate ice cream together.

We went to youth group together.

We hung out with our other BFF Trey together. (P.S. Her brother Michael is making the funny face in the background. He’s funny and dry-humored too.)

I watched her graduate.

Then she watched me graduate.

We made silly faces together.

We even watched a horse race together.

And then she stood by me the day I got married.

And yesterday, I took pictures of her and her brand new husband as she got married. :)

She and her hubs are moving to Florida this week, and while I bawled my eyes out like a baby yesterday and last night having to say goodbye, I could not possibly be more excited for her and the adventure she gets to go on these next few months. :)

Now. All of you join me in my request for her to start a blog. ;)

Love you Kath-ted! Miss you already.

And now, I go to Florida for a few days and pretend I’m moving there too. Hahaha. Happy Sunday loves! :)

Nautical, fresh, modern, and glorious. And lightning fast. That is how I remember our reception. :)

I longed to have our reception at the Chesapeake Boathouse ever since I laid my creeping eyes on a random bride’s photos. It was THE most beautiful place, and I am pretty certain I injured myself or someone else when I had a post-booking victory dance.

Let’s all take another bow to my mom and mom-in-law. Mom made all those table cloths with some help from my Grandma, and Mom-in-law came up with the flower and seashell arrangements and decor. Nautical bliss. :)

Now bow to Dad-in-law, who scored us these awesome water bottles. :)

We designed and ordered this banner from Sign-A-Rama in OKC. Debbie Lowery from Running Wild Catering provided the food.

All these frames were from Hobby Lobby and we painted them with turquoise spray paint…”ocean breeze” I believe it’s called.

And a huge thank you to Mom-in-law’s BFF Jill – she put together almost everything for us the day of the wedding. Because she is the absolute best.

This picture is from almost 3 years ago. Wittle babies.

Now bow to my Dad, who paid for all these cool people to come stare at our pictures and eat our food. ;)

We could not have had a prettier day and ironically, it had rained the whole week before.

Oh hey, super cute cousins!

Words cannot express how much I adore Janet Rosebeary from Rosebeary’s Designs in Baking. The cake was absolutely one of my favorite details of the day, and I could not have hoped for prettier! Look at it! It’s glorious! Andrew was thrilled with his double fudge chocolate Cowboys cake as well. :) I’m ridiculously excited to get our 1-year anniversary cake from Janet when we return from our trip. :) [Side note. I don't even like cake. Seriously. But I like Janet's milk chocolate cake. That means something.]

We danced to this, because Paul McCartney is phenomenal:

Look how cute our bridal party looks watching us. Hehe. J’adore.

And then we had cake. I promise I had no intention of rubbing it in Andrew’s face, but it happened.

We had our glasses (Coca Cola and Sprite BTW) personalized at Things to Remember in the mall.

Happy groom. :)

Happy bride. :)

Happy best man. :)

Another of my top 5 faves. ;)

:)

The end! Or the beginning. :)

I’ll return to normal blogging next week. ;) Actually…I’ll be in Florida and celebrating my anniversary come to think of it… so I won’t. Or maybe I will. You’ll just have to wait and see. Happy Friday loves!

“Therefore, what God has joined together, let no man separate.” -Mark 10:9-

Hope you’re not tired of these yet…I’ve got one more written up for tomorrow and that’s the end, I promise! ;)

The ceremony was the most surreal experience of my entire life…in the best way possible.

Our cute mamas. Pre-crying stage.

My good-looking man and his good-looking boys. They walked in to this after our moms (when the music swells at 2:43):

And my lovely ladies and cousins walked in to this song (apologies for the cheese ball YouTube video…it was the best I could find. Lol.):

My handsome Daddy and I, walking in to the crescendo of this song (from the greatest movie ever):

You can’t see too well, but just know that this is Dad and Andrew sharing a fist bump. :)

This is the world’s greatest youth minister. :) Tobin is the youth pastor I grew up listening to, and as if his talent of teaching God’s Word wasn’t enough, he sings too. His voice is one of my favorites of all time. I’m waiting for the day he makes a CD so I can buy it immediately.

Speaking of amazing voices and people who should make CDs…this is our dearest Paul Gandy. I like to pretend he’s my little brother, and sometimes I creep on him and video him when he sings for us because he is the next Josh Groban. He sang this song while we lit our unity candle.

Two of my greatest heroes – Mr. Hough, my senior Bible teacher, the man who taught me some of the most important things I’ll ever know and prays for me often. And Mr. Shaun Boyd, one of our church leaders who has always been there to provide me with a laugh and encourage me with Scripture. He also was involved in the trickery behind Andrew’s surprise proposal at Falls Creek. :) Mr. Hough read an excerpt from a poem (he was also my English teacher) and Shaun read from a passage in Hosea. And I cried just at the sight of them. Haha.

“You may kiss the bride.”

And then Hance said “I think the bride kissed him.” Hahaha. ;)

And we exited to this song:

And this one tears at my heartstrings.

Dad’s car is legendary.

:)

Next up – the last of wedding recaps, the reception. :)

Part 3, here we go!

If you are getting married and teetering on the fence about doing a “first look” (where the bride and groom see each other before the wedding), I hope this helps you make your decision. And your decision needs to be to do one. I adore first looks. The wedding day is crazy and lightning fast and full of other people coming up and saying things you won’t remember, but I remember seeing my husband for the first time on our wedding day. I remember crying and thinking, “Wow. This is it. We’re getting married!” The first look not only allows you to take all your pictures beforehand (which obviously I love as a photographer), but it also gives you a moment that belongs solely to the TWO OF YOU. And trust me, you don’t get much of that during the wedding day. Haha.

Enjoy. :)

*tears*

Flowers by Tony Foss.

True story. Mom and I drove 6 hours for me to try on this dress. And 6 hours back. [Maggie Sottero Destination dress.]

Sigh. :)

Double sigh.

We happen to have a willow on the side of our church. Willows happen to be my favorite trees eveeeer.

One of my faves.

This is where we got really excited about marriage and getting to go to Cancun for a week. :D

I know my face looks funny in this picture, but it’s one of my favorites cuz my Hubs looks so hotttt. ;)

Favorite.

Up next – the ceremony!

Guys. I’m going to Disney World in a few days. Just had to tell you…for the 72nd time.

Now. Enjoy my ridiculously good-looking friends and family. ;)

These people are the absolute greatest.

I wish I had an audio recording of what Brad was saying at this moment. Lol.

Oh hubs. You’re so cute.

Can we talk about how the world’s best-looking ladies were my bridesmaids?! I love them dearly. Middle left: Kristi Michele…BFF and professional laugher. She completes me. Middle right: Sweet Brette…the one person I know who is literally incapable of saying anything mean. She’s presh. Bottom left: Kathleen Marie…the BFF I’ve had the longest – she’s also about to be the prettiest bride ever this weekend! Bottom middle: Lexi Loo…I loved her so much I named my dog after her. Okay, maybe not literally, but she IS the best roomie ever. Bottom right: Alyssa AKA Worm….the eternal smirking partner in crime.

This is why we are best friends. This picture sums up our friendship perfectly. :)

Sassy.

I know this will be one of those things I look back at in 20 years and say, “Really? Parasols, Cait?!” and my children will mock me for being so queer. But Hobby Lobby sucks me in every time with their spring stuff, and I love this picture.

Apparently, I like brunettes.

Such studs, I can’t even handle it.

Groomsmen.

Top left: Brother-in-law. Top middle: Brother by blood. Top right: Andrew and brother. Left bottom: Dave, the coolest Sunday School teacher Andrew ever had. Bottom middle: Jerod, one of our oldest BFFs. Bottom right: Our beloved and hilarious Wesley, holding the tree limbs out of the way for us. Hahaha.

This is pure greatness.

Our parents are styling.

One of my top 5 favorite pictures from the day. :)

This one is in the top 5 too. :) Love my Daddy.

Family. :) And Pastor Hance, who I like to call God’s best friend.

I get to boast of the three cutest cousins of all time. Look at them. They’re darling. I wish they could stay little forever!

Seriously. They’re the cutest people alive. ;)

I’m obsessed with our nautical color combo. :)

Next up for the recaps…my freakishly handsome husband and myself…first look and portraits and silliness. :)

~Cait

I am truly ASTOUNDED that in exactly one week Andrew & I will be celebrating our one-year anniversary. I can’t believe time has flown by so quickly! Our first year of marriage was quite an exciting adventure, and I can’t wait to see what the next 50 years hold with my man. :)

Hubs and I will be leaving Sunday and spending Monday (our actual anniversary day) in the place where dreams allegedly come true…DISNEY WORLD. :D Tuesday, we’re planning to lay out by the pool, go to some shopping centers, and eat. all. day. long. I’m not exaggerating at all when I say Tuesday of our vacation is going to revolve around food…I’ve mapped out the closest Johnny Rocket’s and the closest Friendly’s, and you better believe we’re hitting them both up. (Sometimes I wonder how we don’t weigh 300 pounds.) I wish each of you could experience the greatness of an ice cream sundae from Friendly’s. Please promise me, all of you, that if you ever come across a Friendly’s on your world travels, you will go inside and get some ice cream. Specifically a Reese’s sundae. Mmk? Aside from our Disney fun and food consumption, we’re going to do some much-needed resting…chilling by the pool reading our books, reminiscing about our first year of marriage, and pretending we live in Florida. I can’t even wait. :)

And in honor of this splendid anniversary coming up, I thought I’d do a wedding recaps series, because well, it was pretty much the best day ever. ;) Enjoy today’s starter post – the pre-ceremony happenings and details. :)

[*All photos by the fabulous and lovable Benita of BRC Photography and her friend Becky*]

From top left to right: 1. Mom hugs are the best. 2. Andrew was in good hands getting ready with Dad-in-law. 3. Mama cinching my dress up to make me look skinny.

Middle left to right: 1. Reading the letter Andrew wrote me. 2. One of the many times I cried that day…holding up the Bible Andrew gave me as a wedding present. 3. More letter reading and crying.

Bottom left to right: 1. My best friend is so the cutest person ever. If you don’t know her, I feel really sorry for you. 2. Andrew reading his letter and opening his gifts. 3. Mom laughing at something. I probably just told her I had a wedgie.

Opening my presents in my fancy “Soon to be Mrs. Boswell” tank top. I personalized mine at Pink Velvet Press on Etsy. Also, I desperately miss being tan.

My second wedding gift was a cardigan with a note that said “For Your Shivers” because I always get cold in restaurants…and everywhere else indoors for that matter.

I’m 99% sure I’m yelling “I’M CLAUSTROPHOBIC” at this point.

Andrew’s very first present to me was this necklace on our 1-month anniversary. I remember thinking it was silly that he was getting me a present after one month of dating, but when I saw it was a cross necklace, I melted.

I wish I knew what I was thinking at this point. My guess is either “Wow, I’m about to get married” or “Gosh, I’d really love some cookie cake right now.”

On the other side of the church, Andrew opened his presents. No, I didn’t gift him those Quail Springs Baptist Church magazines with our faces…we just happened to be on there for a story, and they were everywhere throughout the church. Haha.

True story. Can you read that post-it note? As high school seniors, our Sunday school classes wrote letters to their future spouses, and we each had to pick and read one of the boys’ letters. I picked Andrew’s. Oh God, You are so clever. ;) (And that journal with Andrew dipping me is a notebook I wrote in from the time we got engaged to the day before we got married.)

Jewelry, shoes, dress. The works.

Dallas Cowboys garter – also from Etsy, from this shop.

Top left: Entrance table. Bottom left: Guest book I made. Top right: All our cute nautical invites to various events. Middle right: Inside of guest book. Bottom right: Our invitations we made with the assistance of my super talented brother Bradford.

I adore this shot Benita took of our rings. I’m in love with my engagement ring…have I mentioned this? Sapphires are so prettttttty.

Top two pictures are our wedding programs I designed with more font and color help from Bradford. They were probably my favorite detail from my wedding. We put a ceremony and bridal party list of course, but also included “Thank You,” “Name that Movie,” and “Did You Know?” sections.

Aggh. I just looove them.

Let us all take a moment to bow to my mom and mom-in-law, as well as to Tony Foss and Marianne’s for getting this brilliant canopy to stand and look gorgeous.

Next up for the recaps…the portraits and people I adore. :)
