Adventures with the Boswells

Category Archives: Health

I cannot believe how much has been crammed to fit in the past few days…let’s break it down.

THE GOOD:

gbu01

We love eating out…probably too much, but it’s one luxury we will never give up if possible!

gbu02

And this is why. ;) God bless Olive Garden.

gbu03

We went to see the new Star Trek movie Thursday night, and our minds were BLOWN. So good.

gbu04

These lovely people joined us. :)

gbu05

BFFs. For liiiife.

gbu16

Saturday, Kristi Belle helped me shoot a wedding for one of my good friends from high school. :)

gbu06

Sunday, my family took us out for an early anniversary celebration meal. :) And Dad brought me back fudge from Colorado. :D (More to come later on our anniversary plans…)

THE BAD (but not too bad):

gbu07

Dad, I think there’s a storm coming.

gbu08

The three of us piled in the bathtub with a mattress when the sirens started to go off. Oh, Oklahoma.

gbu13

Jack seemed very calm.

gbu09

And was asleep within minutes. ;) Hahaha.

gbu10

Mom…I am so bored.

gbu11

gbu12

And finally…THE UGLY:

My voice. My voice is gone. I can barely let out a squeak. Lol. I’ve been fighting a sore throat/cold/something dreadful the past week and a half, and it hasn’t been too terrible until this past weekend. I woke up at 3 AM Sunday with a burning throat and haven’t been able to talk since. It’s killing me. WHO KNEW I enjoyed talking so much? ;-P Andrew had to order my meal at Longhorn (luckily, my appetite isn’t gone), and I think I scared the poor lady at Gordman’s half to death when I answered her “do you want to sign up for a credit card?” with a creepy “No, sorry, I lost my voice” whisper. Hahaha. So say a little prayer for me and let’s hope this voice comes back really soon, because how else am I going to get Sonic drinks?! ;)

Happy Monday, loves. :)

Here’s to answered prayers and the abundance of God’s blessings. :)

blogprayer06

We’ve been in this fabulous little home for a YEAR now. :) Looks like we’ve got one more year to go here, and I’m anticipating more memories in this home. :)

blogprayer04

My maniac of a dog is a rockstar snuggler…even if it took a few months for that prayer to be answered. ;)

blogrun01

I prayed for the desire to be healthy. I’ve been running running running like crazy the past month. :)

blogprayer01

AND…drum roll, please… my super attractive husband got a full-time, big boy JOB! He has a badge and everything. Lol. ;) SO proud of him. :)

Our God is so good, and our lives are so full. :)

What prayers have you had answered lately? :)

~Cait

Yeah, I’m a little behind on the months in review…but here they are! I’m equally aghast every month when I realize it’s time to make another one…time is flying!

Here’s January and February in case you missed those. Happy Wednesday!

It was another one of those whirlwind weekends…the kind that go by so fast that I hardly remember what happened. Thank heavens for the iPhone memory.

catchup01

Date night at Zio’s! I adore this food and this man.

catchup02

Perhaps the only reason we really go to the Arts Festival is for the curly fries and tater twirls. I welcome you, delicious artery cloggers. ;)

catchup03

Ran my first treadmill 5K last week! And then made it to 3.5 miles another day. Rejoice!

catchup04

Watching this baby girl while Mom and Dad are on an anniversary trip. She doesn’t look very amused that they’re partying it up in Maine without us. ;)

catchup07

And Jack’s pretty excited that this girl is staying with us while Mom and Dad are gone.

catchup05

If you don’t follow me on Instagram and thus didn’t see this (http://instagram.com/caitphoto), let me go ahead and make your day. You can get a personal alfredo pizza from CiCi’s for $2.48. Seriously. Go forth and feast. (P.S. It’s totally normal to take pictures of your food, right? Pretty sure half this post is food-related today…)

catchup06

My little wolf.

And because summer is (HOLY COW) almost here, I’ve drafted up 2013′s summer bucket list. I can’t wait to tackle all of these!

And here’s a blank printable for you! (Click on the picture and save to your desktop and print.)

Wedding season is about to be full speed, and I should have lots of summer fun coming to the blog. ;) Happy Monday, folks!

Here’s a list of things I’ve learned in my journey to being healthy. And by healthy, I mean “eating veggies and working out in between pancakes and cookie cake.”

1. You can easily become obsessed.

You get in a habit of weighing yourself every day to track your progress, and if you’re not careful, you become obsessed with it. I’ll admit it. I’ve weighed myself three or four times a day, trying to figure out how I could lose this pound or if I could afford to eat this Hershey’s. Lol. It sounds funny, but it can become a serious issue if you let it. Don’t let it. Focus on being healthy and adjusting yourself over time. Make sure you’re doing this for the right reasons – because your body is a temple of the Lord and because being healthy has abundantly more physical, emotional, and mental benefits that being unhealthy. And sure, fitting in your jeans is fun too.

2. You can still eat yummy things.

Don’t worry. If anyone understands the love of food, I DO. You can have your cookie cake and eat it too. Now…the quickest way I ever lost weight was eating low-carb with lots of vegetables and NO sweets. I had chicken and cauliflower like they were about to go extinct, and I threw away every tempting bite of chocolate deliciousness in my house. I lost 10 pounds that way last year in a little less than a month. This year, however, I lost around 8 more pounds over two months and kept off the weight by sticking with my chicken and veggies, but also throwing in an occasional treat and a bunch of exercise. I adore pizza. I would eat it every day if I could. I try to have it once a week or less, but when I do have it, you better believe I’m running at the gym to burn it off. I have a chocolate chip pancake every morning. (The frozen kind…I’m not patient enough to whip up a homemade batch every day.) I get my little pancake and my cup of milk after I have a good workout at the gym. (And a shower, naturally.)

3. Balance is everything.

If I eat poorly for one day, I will camp back in veggie land for two days. You have to balance your food and exercise so it doesn’t get out of control. I’m prone to gluttony on vacations and birthdays, but I’ve discovered the best things to do are 1) eat really well before a vacation/holiday and 2) balance your meals while you’re splurging. Have a salad before you down that alfredo pizza. Say yes to the bread, but no to the dessert. It will make it a lot easier to get back on track if you haven’t eaten yourself sick. And if you’ve been consistently eating healthy and working out, you will feel sick when you overdo it. Trust me.

4. Rewards work for some people.

I am a big believer in list-making and writing out goals. I haven’t done this in a while because I’ve gotten down to my goal weight now (WOOP!) but when I was trying to lose a bunch, I would set a goal and a reward to work toward. After 5 pounds – a Reese’s, after 8 – pizza, and so on. It helped me be a little more excited and definitely more motivated to eat healthy because I knew on the other side of 5 pounds was a chocolate and peanut butter slice of Heaven. ;)

5. It gets easier.

If you had asked me to run 3 miles two years ago, I would’ve fallen to the floor laughing and given you a big, fat “not a chance,” and then promptly gone on a search for ice cream. I didn’t enjoy running, I didn’t care to enjoy running, and at every opportunity, I chuckled at the poor teenagers in orange jerseys running after school and thanked God I wasn’t one of them. I know. Horrible. And now? I LOVE RUNNING. It is such a stress reliever and makes me feel so boss when I’m done. ;) I never would have guessed I could run a mile, no less 3 miles. But I can. And it’s fun! Who knew? It gets easier. The more you work, the more rewards you reap. I can’t believe how easy it feels for me to run a mile now. If only you guys could get a glimpse of high school Caitlin, running and then vomiting during that one ridiculous semester I decided playing soccer would be fun.

Aaaaand all this talk has made me hungry. ;) Happy Wednesday loves!

Where do I begin? The year is getting faster and faster the further we get into it, and I remember less and less of what happened just days ago…we are so busy, but so blessed!

Friday: Celebrated Andrew’s birthday with his last gift from me…a trip to Six Flags! And to Potbelly’s, his favorite restaurant of all time. The weather was perfect, and I don’t think we waited in line for longer than 10 minutes the whole day. It was EMPTY. And glorious.

Saturday: Went to a wedding shower for one of my sweet brides who is getting married next month, had a meeting with another sweet bride getting married next month (WEDDING SEASON IS HERE, FOLKS), and I made Andrew take pictures with me. We needed some updated ones for my About Us page. Oh, and we had Ted’s for dinner because we’re addicted to chips and queso.

I’m fairly certain that our last cold day has come and gone in good old, bipolar Oklahoma, and that makes me happy. :) Welcome, sunshine. Stay a while.

sunshine007

sunshine002

Speaking of sunshine, I lunched with the best friend yesterday, and we feasted because life is short. I’m so thankful for this lady, not only because of her encouraging friendship and constant source of humor, but because she loves pizza too. ;)

sunshine005

It’s embarrassing how much love pizza.

sunshine001

My darling doggie. Another ray of sunshine. :)

sunshine004

And GUESS who ran 3 miles straight for the first time in her life yesterday? I did. :) I know my time is not impressive, but I basically was ready to have a dance party right then and there on the treadmill when I finished. This is proof that non-natural runners can learn to like running.

sunshine006

So naturally, I had this for dinner. ;)

sunshine003

And today, my sunshine is this pooch, who just discovered that the blinds in my office lead to a window to the world outside. Love him.

Hope your day is full of sunshine, literally and metaphorically, as well. ;) :)

TIL01

When your dog learns how to be a champion snuggler, it is harder and harder to get stuff done. I love that Jackers has gotten so good at snuggling and likes to lounge around with me, but I kept napping yesterday and my productivity definitely suffered. I’ve got to get a laptop with Photoshop on it so I can edit in bed. Lol.

TIL02

Apparently, all it takes pizza & chicken & a living room picnic to be fulfilled. Seriously, we are simple folk…but happy, simple folk.

TIL05

Braum’s has my new obsession. Single scoop chocolate ice cream with hot fudge and Reese’s cup topping. It feels like Heaven.

TIL03

When you change your sheets, your dog might think you did it for them. Look at his face. So spoiled and he knows it.

TIL04

Apparently, the secret to running longer is running slower. Who knew, right? I’ve been frustrated in the past when I’ve only been able to run a mile, but I kept starting out at a much higher speed and trying to beat my time, and evidently that was my problem. I started running at 5.2 speed recently, and made it to 2 and a half miles without stopping! (If you’re new to this blog, hi. I’m Caitlin. I’ve hated running my whole life until about a year ago, so I’m still a baby beginner. ;) Lol.)

TIL07

Flowers are therapeutic. Looking at them, smelling them, arranging them, buying them…all of it has become like therapy to me. I love having fresh flowers everywhere.

TIL06

Jack will do anything for sticks. I never thought I would meet a dog who liked sticks more than treats, but Jack is the exception.

What have you learned this week?

~Cait

You know that feeling you get when you go through your old Facebook photos? You cringe, sigh, and delete like a madwoman? Yeah. I feel your pain. Except I have a feeling my awkward phase was twice as long as yours and twice as embarrassing. ;-P

Today, I am celebrating change. I’ve been working hard, and it’s paid off. I’ve been cranking up the veggie consumption, working out consistently, and making eating healthy a lifestyle, not just an occasional hobby. I still have my yummy foods in moderation (you’ve seen them in my food-obsessed posts), and I do splurge on vacations or holidays, but things are much more balanced. And I’m thrilled to say that I weigh less now than I did when I was 13, even less than I did on my wedding day, and I think that entitles me to a slice of celebratory cookie cake, right!? ;)

I’ll admit it…I love before and after photos. And I have some fairly humorous before and afters to share with you today. ;) Please promise you’ll still be my friends after you see what I used to look like…Obviously there’s a big span between my before and after, but hey. Change is change. (Disclaimer: I have every person’s permission to post these. Lol.)

beforeandafter

FOR THE LOVE OF CHUBBY KIDS IN OVERALLS. It hurts to even put that picture up, but I had to after we found it and realized we’d be able to do a remake while we were in Garden of the Gods. OH the humanity. (Side note…sorry my shirt is flipped up funny in the remake…it was much harder to get on that ledge than it looks.)

And…my darling husband.

beforeandafterA

Cutie. He barely looks awkward. But I guess it helps the dramatic effect if you get a cute German shepherd puppy in your after photo. ;)

IMG_9695

HAHA this is my studly Daddy, who I take after in so many ways, including the fact that we were both total dweebs before we got work out crazy.

And perhaps my favorite before pictures of all time…say hello to baby sister, the light of my life. Haha.

beforeandafterW

What a gem. :) I relish in her awkward phase with mine, because our older brother has never had one. Or if he did, it lasted a week and we have no photographic evidence of it.

Did you have an awkward phase? Email me a good before & after if you’re feeling brave and wish to provide me with humor. ;)

Happy Throwback Thursday. ;)

I’ve been an avid Pinterest fan ever since the craze began. Until recently though, I’d never really tried any of the gazillion recipes. I’d pin them and pretend I was trying them, of course, but I never actually got around to it. In the past few weeks, I’ve been on a psycho cooking phase…and I finally have tried some Pinterest goodness! Here are a few of my favorites! Go forth and feast, my friends. ;)

Cheesy Garlic Pull-Apart Bread

IMG_8682

I think Alyssa and I could have finished this garlic goodness all on our own. SO YUM.

Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken

bakedgarlic

We ate it before I thought to take a picture, so here is the Pinterest picture…it was pretty darn yummy.

Parmesan Garlic Knots

IMG_2679

I made half of these breadsticks and half knots, and I had already eaten two of the knots when I took this picture…they were THAT good. ;) (If you haven’t noticed yet, I really like garlic.)

Crispy Cheddar Chicken

IMG_3863

Andrew has dubbed this his new favorite meal. This is a picture without the sauce because only Andrew likes it (I’m not a huge fan) but we downed these puppies in two minutes. We are total pigs.

Do you have any recent favorite recipes from Pinterest? SHARE them with me. :)
